The Boutique Hub
In 2016, I did something that felt equal parts exciting and terrifying. I opened an online boutique selling women’s clothing, apparel, and accessories — with no retail background, no fashion degree, and no roadmap for what I was getting into. It was my first business and my baby.
What I did have? A vision, a relentless work ethic, and a deep desire to build something of my own.
Over the next six years, that little boutique grew into something I’m still proud of today. We’re talking $2 million in inventory sold, thousands upon thousands of orders shipped, a small warehouse, a thriving Facebook community, a full website, and our very own app on both Apple and Android. Not bad for a business built from the ground up!
If you’re dreaming about starting an online boutique — or you’re in the thick of it and wondering if it’s worth it — I want you to read this. Because it is. And I want to show you exactly how it can be done.
It Started With a Leap of Faith
In 2016, the online boutique space was growing fast, and women’s fashion was one of the most exciting places to be in e-commerce. I saw an opportunity, and I took it. I sourced my first round of inventory, set up a facebook page and group, and started building a community of women who loved affordable, stylish clothing.
Those early days were scrappy. I was photographing products in my dining room, writing descriptions, packing orders, answering customer messages, and running social media — all of it! By myself. If you’re a boutique owner, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a whirlwind!

(Here’s me, one month into my boutique, packing orders after my kids went to bed. With shipping labels printed from my home printer, hand-cut and taped on. 🤣)
But something was working. Orders were coming in. The Facebook group grew quickly. Women were showing up, engaging, and coming back! And I knew I was onto something real.
The Tool That Changed Everything: The Boutique Hub
Here’s the honest truth — I did not build this alone. And I think that’s one of the most important things I can tell you.
One of the best decisions I made in my boutique journey was joining The Boutique Hub. (affiliate link) If you’re in the boutique world and you haven’t heard of them, let me introduce you to your new favorite resource.
The Boutique Hub is a community and education platform built specifically for boutique owners — and it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed.
Here’s how The Boutique Hub showed up for my business:
Education & Training
The boutique industry has a learning curve, and The Boutique Hub’s training resources helped me navigate it with confidence. From buying and inventory management to marketing and scaling, their education is practical, relevant, and built by people who actually understand this industry. I wasn’t guessing anymore — I was learning from the best.
A Community That Gets It
There is nothing like being surrounded by people who truly understand what you’re going through. The Boutique Hub membership community gave me access to thousands of boutique owners (via Facebook groups) at every stage of the journey — women who were figuring it out just like me, and women who were further ahead and willing to share what they knew. That kind of community is priceless.
Live Events
I attended Boutique Hub events, and I cannot overstate how valuable that was. Being in a room full of driven, passionate boutique owners is energizing in a way that no online course can replicate. The connections I made, the things I learned, and the inspiration I walked away with kept me going through the hard seasons.

Wholesale Buying Resources
Knowing where to source quality inventory is everything in this business. The Boutique Hub connected me with wholesale vendors and buying resources that helped me stock my boutique with pieces my customers loved — and kept them coming back for more.
What I’d Tell Every Boutique Owner
If you own a boutique or you’re thinking about starting a boutique, here’s what I want you to know:
You don’t need everything figured out to start. I didn’t. You just need to take the first step and be willing to learn as you go.
Community matters more than you think. Don’t try to do this alone. Find your people. Join The Boutique Hub. Surround yourself with others who are on the same journey — it will make all the difference.
Systems and consistency are your best friends. The boutique owners who make it aren’t necessarily the ones with the best eye for fashion. They’re the ones who show up consistently, build processes that work, and treat their boutique like the real business it is.
It is absolutely worth it. Every late night, every packed order, every moment of doubt — worth it. Building something of your own is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
